Poll: What Do You Think About the Professor Von Puppet Video?

What do you think about the Professor Von Puppet video on the brand new PracticeBuildingCenter.com homepage?

I am taking a poll. A simple yes or no. Do you think the Professor Von Puppet Optin Video will prove to get more optins vs. the “slick” pitch video of Ben Cummings? (real time results of the voting shown)

I will let you know the definitve real world results, if Professor Von Puppet whooped my ass or vice versa.

WHY I AM TESTING A PUPPET VIDEO? The Professor is our new welcome video at PBC. It is… unique… to say the least. Trying to cause a Marketing Pattern Interrupt to wake the typical internet surfer out of their stupor 🙂 I enlisted the Professors help.

Take a look at the Professor Von Puppet Video here:

After taking the poll and allowing the stats to settle in, it appears that most visitors preferred the good old “Ben Cummings” optin video.

I found it interesting how few of you said you liked the Puppet video. I thought it would “shock” people into paying greater attention, but it appears I was wrong.

This is a good thing I guess. They’d rather see me than a puppet 🙂

Here is the “winning” video that is now our new control on PracticeBuildingCenter.com homepage:

It was a fun and interesting test to see if a gimmick could win out over substance. It appears substance (in this case at least) was the winner.

If you check out the PBC homepage you will see the previous video has made a triumphant return! Thanks for your involvement in this experiment and poll.

    Hi Ben.

Good puppet video. Breaking from the usual pattern. Seemed a bit strange though for I am used to seeing you as the person in the video. Some of your strategies are really cool, especially the one which can procure the 90 patients in 90 days. It is all lined up as I currently refurbishing my clinic. Also some of the techniques you teach are similar to what I use in my practice. I have a seperate health site where I publish blog posts which forms my online newsletter circulated thrice a week. Linkedin is becoming a real big success recently for healthcare professionals in India. Also a tip which I wanted to share. Being part of non-professional forums. I am member of few forums which are not related directly to my medical profession as a professional forum, rather being a general audience forum. It is one of my marketing poles which supplies me with 1-3 new patients every month. Keep up the good job and looking forward for your next video in youtube.

Thanks for the share. Glad to hear you’re getting Operation Rootstock locked and loaded.

I get what you are going for with the muppet, I just don’t think it seems like something that would draw the attention from target market. It just felt like the video was targeting a different audience than chiropractors.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess ultimately it will depend on if we were able to boost optins on our homepage or not. For now, we cannot tell yet which is working better (too early) but you my be right. I’ll keep everyone posted.

I hope that was a fiver! lol Didn’t do anything for me personally, but like anything else we test and go with the winner!

Was that your voice? Pretty funny and def a pattern interrupt, but stick with your ugly mug Ben.

I find it distracting from the message that you are trying to convey. Your brain starts to think more about the puppet than what you are trying to say. Plus you have to decipher the voice as well. All in all… I think it is the wrong target market.

i agree with Laurence and some of the others. I find it distracting and I tend to lose interest in the subject. I know you’re trying to keep things fresh, but I prefer to just get it straight from you. I am surprised you did not name the puppet, Professor “Art Vandelay!”

Roger – thanks for the comment. I am looking at the voting results and most are saying they like seeing good ‘ol hideous-looking Ben. I guess that’s a good thing 🙂

I have just updated the post above with my final conclusions and what the stats told us.. Check it out above.

Totally not my thing…..I would have clicked off early if I had not been testing it…..You do better job….in the other video where you say in St. Barts….I feel like the background should be moving …it looked staged and like you shot it in NY. But the content and presentation was way better.

    Hi Ben,

I liked the puppet. What I was thinking was that it would be great for patients, to teach them about their health problem. More entertaining. Especially for children. Maybe even better, would be the doctor interviewing the muppet as a patient.

So, the real question is, how can one make a video like this? What are the costs involved? Thanks for keeping your site entertaining.

    • Ben Cummings January 26, 2012 at 2:21 pm #

Yes, I think patients would love it too. I found a guy in Fiverr.com to do it for me.
